Government Unveils Short-Term Fuel Price Cuts and Affordable Bus Plan

In a bid to ease economic pressures on citizens, the Cabinet under President John Dramani Mahama has approved measures to reduce fuel prices and improve access to affordable public transport.

The decision includes the immediate removal of certain fuel-related taxes and margins, as directed to the Finance and Energy Ministries. These changes are expected to reflect in fuel prices starting from the next pricing window and will remain in force for an initial four-week period.

To complement the fuel price intervention, the government has also ordered the rapid deployment of 100 buses to strengthen operations of the Metro Mass Transit Limited. The initiative is designed to provide cheaper commuting options, particularly on busy urban routes.

The Cabinet further reiterated its stance on public sector discipline, with the President maintaining the ban on fuel allowances for top government officials as part of broader fiscal prudence measures.
