Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader, has advocated establishing a special hospital for MPs to handle medical issues while maintaining patient privacy.
Afenyo-Markin asserts that the construction of a parliamentary hospital would be a major step in protecting legislators' privacy and health.
On Monday, March 17, 2025, the Effutu MP spoke during the opening of the Parliamentary Service Board for the ninth Parliament, highlighting the particular difficulties lawmakers have in obtaining private healthcare.
He pointed out that members of the political elite are frequently subject to increased scrutiny, which makes it challenging to obtain medical care without jeopardizing anonymity.
“Mr Speaker, there are two things that I hope for in this ninth parliament. One is a hospital for parliament. If it does happen, according to your vision, it will be a great project. We are a political class and our health issues are to be more private,” he stated.
