President John Dramani Mahama's recent appointment of Dr. Naomi Wolali Kwetey as the Managing Director of Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has raised eyebrows on social media. Dr. Kwetey, the wife of NDC General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey, brings over 25 years of experience in the financial sector, with expertise in corporate relationship management, treasury, and credit administration.
Her impressive educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Ghana, an MBA in International Banking and Finance from The Birmingham Business School, and a Doctorate in Business Administration and Management from Nobel International Business (NiBS) University.
However, the appointment has sparked concerns about nepotism and favoritism, given her relationship with Fiifi Kwetey, a high-ranking member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Critics argue that this move perpetuates a culture of family and friends in government, undermining the principles of meritocracy and fairness.
It's worth noting that Fiifi Kwetey has had a long and distinguished career in Ghanaian politics, serving as a Member of Parliament, Minister of State, and General Secretary of the NDC.
Nevertheless, the appointment of his wife to a key position in the banking sector has raised questions about the Mahama administration's commitment to transparency and accountability.
