All Chief Executives for the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies have been fired by President John Mahama.
On Wednesday, January 8, DjQwequ bloggers obtained a letter from the presidency outlining the decision to cancel their appointments. When the new government takes office, this is part of the Mahama administration's effort to reorganize local governance to better align with its policy objectives.
The letter further instructed that until permanent appointments are made, the corresponding Coordinating Directors of the various MMDAs will take over as acting CEOs as a temporary solution.
MMDCEs are frequently removed from office by changing governments, and they are typically politicized appointees.
After being sworn in at Black Star Square, Mahama took office as president on January 7.
