Ampenyi M/A Basic School has taken a major step forward in improving infrastructure and student welfare, following the commissioning of a new washroom facility, the unveiling of a regimental band, and a sod-cutting ceremony for a new assembly grounds.

The newly completed washroom facility, which includes a dedicated unit for teachers and a urinal for students, was fully funded through contributions from the school’s teaching staff. According to the Headteacher, Mr. Obed Caled Eshun, the initiative was financed through monthly deductions from teachers’ salaries.
He explained that the project was necessary, as both teachers and pupils previously had to leave the school premises to access toilet facilities. He noted that the new facility will eliminate that challenge and significantly improve sanitation and convenience within the school.
The colourful event brought together staff, pupils, and members of the Ampenyi community, reflecting a strong spirit of unity and shared responsibility toward improving the learning environment.
In addition to the commissioning, the school unveiled a newly formed regimental band, which is expected to enhance school ceremonies, promote student participation in co-curricular activities, and instill discipline and teamwork among pupils.

As part of the day’s activities, a sod-cutting ceremony was also held to officially commence the construction of a new assembly grounds. The facility, when completed, will serve as a central venue for school gatherings, ceremonies, and community events.
Chairperson for the event, Nana Adwoa Amissah, a native of Ampenyi, announced plans to establish a foundation to support outstanding Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates from the school. She revealed that an initial amount of GH¢5,000 will be committed to the initiative, which will reward students who excel with single-digit aggregates after their final JHS examinations. She also appealed to the general public for additional support to sustain the initiative.
The School Improvement Support Officer for the Ayensudo Circuit, William Manford Okai, described the project as unprecedented, noting that it is rare for teachers of a single school to contribute their own funds toward such a development. He commended the staff of Ampenyi M/A Basic School for their dedication and urged other schools to emulate their example.
The triple milestone highlights the school’s commitment to both academic and infrastructural development, with expectations that these initiatives will significantly enhance sanitation, student engagement, and the overall quality of education.
