Amasaman High Court Judge, Richmond Osei-Hwere, has denied Nana Agradaa's bail application, citing that her lawyers failed to prove their claim that she is likely to win on appeal. Agradaa was jailed for 15 years for fraud and charlatanic advertisement after being convicted of defrauding people through a money-doubling scheme.
The judge ruled that granting bail wouldn't serve substantial justice since Agradaa hasn't established that her conviction is prima facie wrong. Agradaa's legal team argued that the sentence was harsh and likely to be overturned on appeal due to alleged bias by the Circuit Court Judge.
Agradaa's case has drawn significant public attention, with many Ghanaians gathering at the court to catch a glimpse of her during her first public appearance since her imprisonment. Her husband, Angel Asiamah, faced backlash from alleged victims who jeered and chased him away.
