The National Insurance Commission's Central Regional office recently held an educational meeting with fish sellers at the Mpoben Fish Selling Centre in Elmina. The meeting aimed to introduce micro insurance to the fish sellers and address any issues they had with previous interactions with insurance companies.

Mad Nicholina Naa Yeye Adumuah, Central Regional Branch Manager, briefed the fish sellers on micro insurance, highlighting its benefits and encouraging them to participate. She emphasized that micro insurance is available to all persons, regardless of the size of their work or whether they're on payroll or monthly paid workers. Mad Adumuah stressed the importance of registering for micro insurance to receive support in case of accidents.

The National Insurance Commission's office assured the fish sellers that they have an open door policy to receive complaints, reports, or issues related to insurance companies. This initiative is part of the Commission's efforts to educate the public on insurance-related issues and provide accessible insurance solutions.

The meeting is particularly significant for fish sellers, who face unique challenges, including post-harvest losses and accidents. Micro insurance can provide them with financial protection and security. Given the importance of the fisheries sector to Ghana's economy, employing an estimated 3 million people along the value chain, such initiatives can have a substantial impact on supporting fish sellers and other stakeholders.
