The Health Club of the Psychiatric Nurses’ Training College (PNTC), Ankaful, has called on the public to adopt healthier lifestyles to prevent and manage hypertension.

Speaking during a radio talk show, members of the club explained that hypertension occurs when blood pressure in the arteries remains consistently high. They noted that the condition often presents no symptoms but can lead to severe complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.

According to the club, hypertension may result from genetic factors, poor diet, lack of physical activity, stress, or excessive salt intake. They emphasized that management of the condition requires lifestyle changes, including reducing salt consumption, engaging in regular exercise, avoiding alcohol and smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and managing stress effectively.

The health professionals added that in some cases, medications such as diuretics and ACE inhibitors are prescribed to control blood pressure. They, however, advised that regular medical check-ups and consistent blood pressure monitoring are essential for early detection and prevention of complications.

The PNTC Health Club reiterated its commitment to promoting public health education and urged Ghanaians to make healthy living a daily habit to reduce the burden of hypertension nationwide.
