Ghanaian politician and founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has sparked outrage with his reaction to the tragic Adansi Akrofuom helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several top government officials.
Speaking in the wake of the incident, Akpaloo brushed aside the wave of public grief, arguing that death is an inevitable part of life and should not be overly sensationalized.
“People die every day. Children die all the time, so why should I cry or be bothered when these old men are gone? Let’s talk about something important and stop all these whining,” he said.
His remarks come after a military helicopter carrying high-ranking government officials crashed in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, killing four people instantly, with others sustaining serious injuries. The deceased were reportedly en route to Obuasi when the aircraft went down under unclear circumstances and burst into flames.
While many political leaders and citizens have expressed shock and sympathy for the victims’ families, Akpaloo’s comments have been widely criticized as insensitive and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and the grieving families.
Social media users and political commentators have condemned his statement, with some calling for a public apology, while others argue that such remarks show a lack of empathy from someone seeking public office.
Authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the crash, while state funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
