“Shatta Wale Is the Lumba of Our Time, Take It or Leave It” – Captain Smart Sparks Debate

Media personality Captain Smart has set social media buzzing after boldly comparing dancehall king Shatta Wale to the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

In a video that surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) on August 22, 2025, the outspoken broadcaster declared: “This is not because I like Shatta Wale, but whether you like it or not, Shatta Wale is the Lumba of our time. You can choose to hate him or like him.”

Explaining his statement, Captain Smart highlighted Shatta Wale’s creativity, stagecraft, and consistency in music, stressing that these qualities place him in the same league as Daddy Lumba, a man many regard as one of Ghana’s greatest musicians. “His artistry is on par with that of the late Daddy Lumba,” Smart emphasised.

His endorsement comes at a time when Shatta Wale is also facing public attention for non-musical reasons. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is still investigating the controversy surrounding his 2019 Lamborghini Urus, an issue that has kept him under the media spotlight.

Captain Smart’s comments have sparked heated debate among fans and industry watchers. While some support the broadcaster’s view, noting Shatta Wale’s dominance and influence over the last decade, others argue that comparing him to Daddy Lumba is “a stretch too far.”

Regardless of the divided opinions, Captain Smart’s remarks have reignited conversations about Shatta Wale’s place in Ghana’s music history and whether his legacy will match that of Daddy Lumba in years to come.
