The Western Central Regional Police Command has apprehended two individuals for allegedly extorting money from gold dealers while impersonating officials of the Ghana Gold Board Taskforce.

The suspects, identified as Foster Delord, 40, and Prince Worvi, 38, who claim to be ex-military personnel, were arrested after a complaint was filed by a group of gold buyers in Tarkwa. According to police reports, the duo had been visiting multiple gold buying centers under the pretense of being taskforce officials mandated by the Ghana Gold Board.

Upon their arrest, the police retrieved several incriminating items from the suspects. These included one handcuff, one pepper spray, an electric shocker, a full set of uniform believed to be used in their operations, and a cash amount of GH¢500 suspected to be proceeds from their illegal activities.

The two were swiftly arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court and have since been remanded into police custody as investigations continue.

In a statement, the Western Central Regional Police Command cautioned the public—especially those in the gold trading sector—to be vigilant and demand proper identification from anyone claiming to represent a government institution or security agency.

“The police are committed to maintaining law and order and will continue to crack down on individuals who engage in such deceptive and unlawful activities,” the statement added.

The Command also encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious behavior or impersonation to the nearest police station for swift action.

Investigations are still ongoing to determine whether the suspects have accomplices or have previously carried out similar fraudulent operations in other regions.
