For the upcoming Muslim pilgrimage, President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his pledge to lower the cost of the Hajj.

During the 2024 election campaign, President Mahama made a major pledge to lower Hajj fares. He pointed out that many regular Muslims are unable to fulfill their religious duty to make the trip to Mecca since the current ticket of GH¢75,000 is unaffordable.

President Mahama announced the creation of a task team to manage Hajj affairs during the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event on January 10 at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra.

“We intend to keep our promise that was made to the Muslim community. One was that we would reduce Hajj fares drastically. I have formed a 5-member Hajj task force that is led currently by our longest-serving Member of Parliament, Hon. Collins Dauda.
