The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council, has imposed a curfew on Walewale and its environs in the North East Region. According to an official statement issued on Saturday, February 15, 2025, the curfew will be in effect daily from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM until further notice.
The government has urged all residents to comply with the curfew and has called on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and the general public to exercise restraint and seek peaceful solutions to any challenges they may be facing.
“Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace,” the statement read.
Ban on Weapons and Ammunition
In addition to the curfew, the government has imposed a total ban on the possession and use of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Walewale and its surroundings.
“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the Minister warned.
The Ministry of the Interior emphasized that security agencies will strictly enforce the curfew and the weapons ban, urging the public to cooperate fully to maintain peace and order.

Residents are advised to take note of the curfew hours and abide by the directives to prevent any legal consequences and to contribute to the restoration of peace in the affected areas.
