The Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court has remanded two suspected landguards and twelve alleged National Security operatives into police custody for their involvement in the unlawful demolition of over 60 buildings at Gomoa Akoti in the Central Region.
The 14 accused persons were arrested following a joint police operation after reports emerged that a group of armed men stormed the community in the early hours of the day and demolished several residential buildings which were at various stages of completion.
According to police prosecutors, the suspects are facing multiple charges including conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, causing damage to property, use of force, and instilling fear and panic among residents.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the demolition exercise was carried out without any lawful court order, leaving dozens of property owners devastated and displaced. Victims say the incident has caused significant financial losses and emotional distress.
The accused persons were denied bail by the court due to the gravity of the offences and have been remanded into custody. They are expected to reappear before the court on March 4, 2026, as investigations into the matter continue.
Meanwhile, residents of the affected community have called on authorities to ensure justice is served and to intensify efforts to clamp down on the activities of landguards in the area.
