The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has given the government a new deadline to fully implement their Conditions of Service by the end of July 2025 — or risk nationwide industrial action.
The association says they are growing frustrated over delays in fulfilling promises made during earlier negotiations. They had suspended their strike action on June 13, 2025, following an intervention by Parliament’s Health Committee.
However, GRNMA President, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, says the government is not keeping to its word. A scheduled meeting with Parliament, meant to address their concerns, was postponed from June 26 to July 10, which the association says is unacceptable.
The nurses and midwives are demanding the implementation of key allowances including fuel, uniform, book and research, and an 8% non-basic salary allowance. They have warned that if nothing changes by July 31, they will resume their strike.
“We are giving government up to the end of July. If by then nothing is done, we will not hesitate to take action,” Ofori-Ampofo warned.
The association has urged all members to stay calm but prepare to act if necessary
