Court Lays Injunction On Illegal Installation And Outdooring Of A New Paramount Chief At Agave Traditional Area

The Sogakope High Court has laid an injunction on a purported installation and outdooring of a new paramount chief at the Agave Traditional Area.

The injunction followed a press release from the president of the Traditional Area Torgbega Xedihor Hlitabo IV (Also the paramount chief of Agave Traditional Area) cautioning the public about some perpetrators who are breaking rules by installing a new paramount chief to destabilize the community.

It should be on record that the current paramount chief of Agave was given full powers and authority last year by the Volta Region house of chiefs. “ We wish to bring to the attention of the general public that the Agave Traditional Area has a lawfully recognized bona fide Paramount Chief, who has also been sworn into office as the President of Agave Traditional Council on 9th October, 2024 and subsequently inducted into the Volta Region House of Chiefs on 15th October, 2024, and that, THERE IS NO NEED FOR ANOTHER PARAMOUNT CHIEF SINCE THE STOOL IS ONLY ONE.”

THE ILLEGAL INSTALLATION AND OUTDOORING OF A PURPORTED PARAMOUNT

CHIEF OF AGAVE TRADITIONAL AREA

The President of the Agave Traditional Council and the Council of Elders of the Agave Traditional Area have chanced on a letter dated 2nd April, 2025 on the subject

"OUTDOORING OF THE PARAMOUNT CHIEF OF AGAVE TRADITIONAL AREA" and signed by one Togbe Agbete Gbiedzi Boatrie VII inviting the general public to a purported outdooring ceremony of a certain Paramount Chief.

We wish to bring to the attention of the general public that the Agave Traditional Area has a lawfully recognized bona fide Paramount Chief, who has also been sworn into office as the President of Agave Traditional Council on 9th October, 2024 and subsequently inducted into the Volta Region House of Chiefs on 15th October, 2024, and that, THERE IS NO NEED FOR ANOTHER PARAMOUNT CHIEF SINCE THE STOOL IS ONLY ONE.

The activities of the said Togbe Agbete Gbiedzi Boatrie VII and his gang is a ploy to create perpetual mayhem on Agave land and pose a huge security threat to the good people of Agave and Ghana at large since the people of Agave would not hesitate to rise against them and stop them from perpetrating such illegality alongside their heinous crimes.

The President of the Agave Traditional Council and the Council of Elders of the Agave Traditional Area have since reported the matter to the Police and also initiated legal proceedings against the organisers of the sacrilegious act.

The court, in a statement said:

“IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the Defendants / Respondents, their servants, work persons, agents, assigns, privies or any persons claiming through them are restrained from holding themselves out as Chiefs, installing parallel Paramount Chief and to outdoor the said Chief stated on 6th April, 2025 pending the final determination of the substantive matter.

This order shall remain for a period of ten (10) days only. The order shall be served by way of substituted service by posting copies thereof on the notice board of this court as well as leaving copies thereof to any adults in the homes of the Defendants/Respondents.”
