Her Warmth Sustained Me: A Legacy to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, District Chief Executive of North Tongu, has expressed her deep sorrow over the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. In an interview with Tony Mark-Boye, morning show host of GBC Volta Star Radio, Amefadzi recalled her encounter with Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings at the re-inauguration of the 31st December Women's Movement in 2006.

Amefadzi, a newly trained teacher posted to Mepe at the time, joined the 31st December Women's Movement and became the Deputy Secretary. Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was the special guest of honor at the event. "When Konadu saw my spectacles, she made a compliment that 'I love your glasses'," Amefadzi recalled, still touched by the gesture.

Amefadzi attributed her loyalty and continued service in the party to Konadu's genuine interest in nurturing young leaders. "She had a way of making you feel valued and appreciated," Amefadzi said. "Her kindness and generosity inspired me to stay committed to the party and its ideals."

Amefadzi received the news of Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings' passing while attending a conference of District Chief Executives and District Coordinating Directors at The Palms by Eagle. She described the news as a shock and expressed her gratitude for the impact Konadu had on her life and career.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a trailblazing leader who left an indelible mark on Ghana's social and political landscape. Through the 31st December Women's Movement, she mobilized and empowered women across Ghana, providing them with tools to generate income, participate in community leadership, and engage in national decision-making.

As First Lady, Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings championed women's rights, education, and healthcare, leading Ghana to become the first country to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Amefadzi emphasized that Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings' legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched. "She was a true leader who inspired a generation of women to take charge of their lives and communities," Amefadzi said. Tributes have poured in from government officials, politicians, and citizens, praising Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings' dedication to national service and women's empowerment.
