Entrepreneur and public affairs commentator Prince Ntiamoah Bampong has stated that it is inappropriate to publicly disclose the specific amounts an investigative body such as the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) spends on its operations or allocated to them.
Speaking on the issue on GTV, he argued that while transparency in public finance is important, investigative institutions require a certain level of confidentiality to effectively carry out sensitive investigations without compromising their work.
According to Mr. Prince Ntiamoah Bampong, revealing detailed expenditure figures of the OSP could expose operational strategies, jeopardize ongoing investigations, and alert suspects who may then take steps to frustrate justice.
He explained that unlike conventional public institutions, bodies tasked with investigations and prosecutions operate in delicate environments where discretion is critical to success.
He therefore called for a balanced approach that ensures accountability without undermining the effectiveness of the OSP. Prince Ntiamoah Bampong suggested that oversight mechanisms such as Parliament and relevant audit institutions should have access to expenditure details, while the general public is provided with summarized reports rather than sensitive breakdowns.
