John Mahama’s appointee, Mr. Edward Kombat is combating the problems of TOR - Edem Tameklo hails new management

Government Communicator Edem Tameklo has praised the new leadership of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), led by John Mahama’s appointee Mr. Edmond Kombat, for what he describes as a bold, disciplined, and innovative approach to turning around the struggling state refinery.

According to Mr. Tameklo, Mr. Kombat has demonstrated a deep understanding of the institution’s structural and financial challenges, taking decisive steps that are already restoring confidence among workers and stakeholders. He described the new Managing Director as a “problem-solver” whose reforms are beginning to inject fresh life into TOR.

Mr. Tameklo highlighted the introduction of a structured staff remuneration system as one of Mr. Kombat’s most impactful reforms. This system, he explained, has significantly boosted worker morale after years of uncertainty, irregular payments, and managerial neglect.

He noted that when workers feel valued and motivated, productivity naturally improves, an outcome that is already evident within the refinery. Mr. Tameklo emphasised that the new approach signals a departure from the chaos that defined earlier management practices, replacing it with order, transparency, and professionalism.

The Government Communicator further commended Mr. Kombat for rolling out strategic measures aimed at reviving TOR’s operational capacity and financial viability.

These include enhanced accountability frameworks, improved supervision of procurement processes, and the introduction of new revenue-enhancing strategies. Mr. Tameklo asserted that with such leadership, TOR is on a credible path to reclaiming its place as a major asset in Ghana’s energy sector.

He stated that the refinery’s progress is proof that competent and visionary leadership backed by sound policy direction from the Mr. Kombat’s administration is key to transforming TOR.
