Lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, has criticized the Minority in Parliament for walking out of the vetting of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Baffour-Bonnie.

Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show, Dr. Danquah described the Minority’s action as a missed opportunity to test Ghana’s judicial system through a transparent and democratic process. He emphasized that the vetting was an important constitutional exercise that required the participation of all lawmakers, regardless of political differences, to ensure that the nation’s judiciary remains accountable and credible.

Dr. Boakye Danquah explained that the vetting process serves as a vital tool for Parliament to scrutinize nominees and evaluate their competence, integrity, and commitment to justice.

According to him, by walking out from the session, the Minority failed to uphold their responsibility to the people they represent and denied themselves the opportunity to question and assess the nominee’s judicial philosophy and track record. “Democracy thrives on engagement and constructive debate, not withdrawal,” he stated, noting that such actions send the wrong message about Parliament’s commitment to it.

He concluded by calling for greater collaboration and maturity among lawmakers to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure fairness in all constitutional processes.
