Government Communicator Edem Tameklo has levelled fresh allegations of financial misconduct against the former NPP administration, claiming that crude oil valued at USD 88 million was shockingly discounted and sold for only USD 44 million during their management of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

According to him, this transaction represents one of the most blatant examples of financial loss to the state, raising serious questions about the integrity and competence of those who supervised TOR at the time. He argued that such a monumental undervaluation could not have occurred without deliberate intent or gross negligence.
Speaking on GTV Breakfast show, Tameklo described the alleged transaction as a “clear case of financial fraud,” insisting that no rational management team would sanction a 50% discount on state crude unless personal interests were at play. He lamented that the refinery, which should have been a major contributor to national revenue, was instead turned into what he called “a playground for reckless deals and politically connected actors.”
Mr. Tameklo maintained that the NPP’s handling of TOR not only deepened the refinery’s financial woes but also deprived Ghanaians of resources that could have supported critical national development projects.
He emphasised that uncovering the truth behind the USD 44 million transaction is essential for accountability and for ensuring that TOR never again becomes a victim of political manipulation.
In his view, the recent improvements at TOR under new oversight prove that Ghana’s state institutions can thrive when protected from corrupt practices and that those responsible for past losses must be held to account.
