After 400 Years of Finding their Routes, They Return to the Bono Region to Affirm Their State and Royalty.

In an emotional and history making journey, descendants of the Bono people scattered across the globe for centuries have finally returned home to the Bono Region of Ghana, retracing ancestral routes lost to the tides of the transatlantic slave trade. After 400 years of displacement, longing, and search for identity, their return marks a powerful moment of cultural affirmation and royal reconnection.

This symbolic homecoming is not merely a visit but it is a spiritual and cultural reclamation. The returning descendants, bearing both the weight and pride of their heritage, were warmly received by traditional leaders, chiefs, and custodians of Bono royalty. The ceremonies, draped in kente, drums, and ancestral rites, affirmed their place in the great lineage of Bono nobility.

The journey spanning generations represents a powerful narrative of survival, resilience, and rebirth. For many, this was their first time setting foot on the land their ancestors once called home. For the people of Bono, it was a celebration of unity, healing, and the reaffirmation of a shared royal identity that transcends time and oceans.

Indeed, the return is not the end of a journey, but the beginning of a restored bond between the past and the future, between land and spirit, and between a people and their royal roots. The group was led by Dr Vickie Altmon and coordinated by Heritage Village Project.
