On Monday, December 23, 2024, President Akufo-Addo officially opened the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the Western Region at Ezinlibo.
The project's commissioning, according to the president, is a crucial step in his administration's efforts to safeguard Ghana's marine and territorial integrity.
He claims that the Navy's ability to counter illicit fishing, piracy, and other security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea will be strengthened by this strategically placed base. With more ones slated for Keta, Ada, Winneba, and Elmina, Ezinlibo joins a network of Forward Operating Bases located around the nation, which already includes those at Tilli, Bui, Sankore, and Kenyase.
These bases, he said, are evidence of my government's dedication to safeguarding Ghana's resources and maintaining regional and national peace and security.
The Ghana Navy Ship (GNS) Achimota, the biggest ship ever constructed in Ghana, was also commissioned by the President later that day at Sekondi Naval Base. GNS Achimota, which is 65 meters long, is a potent representation of the progress our Navy has made over the course of its 65-year history.
"GNS Achimota is a symbol of our Navy's development and a testament to its tenacity, service, and expansion," he said.
"This vessel and more than 20 other contemporary platforms that we have acquired during my administration demonstrate our unwavering commitment to establishing Ghana as a maritime powerhouse in the region," he said.
"These accomplishments are a part of the greater narrative of the Ghana Armed Forces' modernization and reform during my tenure. Our Armed Forces have been prepared to handle both current and upcoming problems since the founding of the Navy Training Command and the Riverine Command. I am immensely proud of the men and women of the Ghana Navy, whose bravery, commitment, and selflessness continue to protect the peace and sovereignty of our country.
Days like today serve as a reminder of the progress we have done together as my tenure as Commander-in-Chief comes to an end. These landmarks serve as a legacy of strength and optimism for next generations, not just a celebration of accomplishments and infrastructure. Let's keep constructing a stronger, safer Ghana," he continued.
