The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged Ghanaians to embrace the recent digitalisation initiatives introduced in the health sector.
Speaking at the commissioning of the e-pharmacy and telehealth services in Ejisu, Ashanti Region, on Monday, 11 November, Dr Bawumia underscored the transformative potential of these services for healthcare in Ghana.
The telehealth program, according to the vice president, aims to enhance the provision of virtual healthcare throughout the region.
He stated that this unique platform will allow Ghanaians to obtain medical consultations, diagnosis, prescriptions, and even specialist treatment online, bringing crucial health services directly to their communities.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that this service will provide access to high-quality treatment while also saving people time and money.
By facilitating remote consultations, patients can avoid travel and receive timely medical attention, especially those in underserved areas.
Additionally, he emphasised that the telehealth platform will offer access to international health services, creating opportunities for Ghanaians to benefit from expertise beyond the nation’s borders.
Dr. Bawumia urged the public to support and make use of these digital health services because he thinks they will enhance everyone's access to healthcare. "The Telehealth program will improve access to medical care from a distance. Diagnostics, medicines, and specialized care can be provided with access to your vital signs and medical information. "Time, money, and resources will be saved by the telehealth effort. "International telehealth services are also available, so it's not just in Ghana," he said.
