At the Ashanti Region, a group of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have asked the police to look into a reported looting incident at the STC bus terminals at Oforikrom and Adum. The gang claims that they learned about the disappearance of some equipment at the terminals from an informant.
Following this tip, they called the police and went to the location to confirm the allegation. They said that when they arrived, they found that a number of vital components, such as power plants, automobile tires, and other equipment, were missing.
Speaking on the matter, the leader of the group, Alhaji Nje, who is also a member of the Ashanti Regional Inter-Party and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Committee, stated that when they enquired about the missing power plant from the terminal administrator, he claimed it had been sent for repairs.
An engineer at the Oforikrom terminal, however, denied this, claiming that a receipt showing the plant's sale had previously been submitted. Alhaji Nje went on to say that the Adum Divisional Police are handling the case at the Adum terminal, while the Oforikrom Police Station has been notified of the alleged looting crime at the Oforikrom STC terminal for investigation.
Alhaji added that certain background checks and information collection will be completed while they wait for the police to respond, after which it will be sent to the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team for additional action.
“I had information earlier yesterday with pictures of some tyres and machines at the yard that they believe some of them are no more at the yard. So I moved in with some of the constituency executives of Oforikrom and then the task force leadership, but before we got there, we informed the police that this was the information that we had gotten from an informant.
There is a plant there, but it wasn't there when we arrived, and three brand-new buses had been burned. We instructed the police to look into this because it is so disturbing, and we are currently putting together our report to give to the Operation Recover All Loot team.
