An honorary doctorate in Theatre and Media Arts has been awarded to veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo, also referred to as 'Mama G', by the Achievers Network Academy in the United Kingdom. The 66-year-old actress was honoured for her contributions to African and Nollywood movies over the years.
On Saturday, November 30, 2024, celebrities, friends, and family attended the award ceremony hosted by the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Adebayo Salami and Jide Kosoko, two Yoruba performers, were also honoured for their illustrious contributions to the profession. The honourees received recognition for their noteworthy contributions to the globalisation of Nollywood. Among their enduring contributions include their well-known concerts, mentoring of up-and-coming artists, and use of film to promote African culture. Nollywood pioneer Patience Ozokwor started out as a radio host before becoming well-known for the 1999 movie Authority.
With over 100 movies to her credit, her standout performances include classics like Ukwa (2001), Blood Sister (2003), and Billionaires Club (2003).
