Sammy Crabbe, the former second vice chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has demanded a radical change in the leadership and organization of the party.

He listed serious shortcomings that, in his opinion, played a factor in the party's resounding loss in the general elections of 2024. Speaking to Emefa Akosua Adeti on JoyNews' Personality Profile, Mr. Crabbe characterized the NPP's absence of a "duty of care" system for its members as a serious flaw.

"I didn't find the party's defeat shocking. The magnitude of the loss surprised me," he said.

Mr. Crabbe emphasized the need for reforms to restore accountability and unity and that the NPP must solve its internal issues in order to win back the public's trust.

Mr. Crabbe reflected on his 2015 suspension, saying it exposed deeper problems within the party and was planned by party executives who didn't like his leadership style. He said, "It was about individuals protecting their interests, not about what was best for the party."

Mr. Crabbe stated that he plans to run for the position of NPP chairman in 2026. "My background has prepared me to guide the party through this trying time. "I'm prepared to assume the responsibility of rebuilding from the ground up," he said.
