Totobi Quakyi: I'm not to blame for the violence that followed the election.

Kofi Totobi Quakyi, the former minister of national security, has flatly disputed claims made by Patricia Appiagyei, the member of parliament for Asokwa for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), that he is responsible for the violence in the nation following the election.

Former National Security Coordinator Larry Gbevlo-Lartey was also implicated in the charges, which were backed by the NPP's majority in parliament. They claimed that the two, who are affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), planned violent events after the general elections in 2024.

These crimes, which were purportedly committed by people with ties to the NDC, allegedly involved thuggery against state institutions and attacks on government personnel.

Following President-elect John Dramani Mahama's announcement of an interim committee, which included Totobi Quakyi and Gbevlo-Lartey, to supervise national security issues prior to the nomination of permanent officials, the allegations came to light.

During a press briefing, Patricia Appiagyei, the deputy majority leader, expressed alarm about these events and warned that the alleged violence presents a serious threat to national security.

Totobi Quakyi strongly denied the accusations in a statement issued on January 6, 2025, calling them "categorically false, malicious, and baseless."

He urged the NPP to stop disseminating unsupported allegations and underlined his dedication to preserving peace and stability in the nation.

"It is extremely concerning and disheartening for an Honorable Member of Parliament to make such reckless and careless remarks," Totobi Quakyi said.

Citing his decades of public service as proof, he emphasized his passion to promoting peace and stability in Ghana.

He pointed out that Hon. Appiagyei's careless charges have serious ramifications for national cohesion and unity following the election.

He mentioned that the Inspector General of Police has been tasked with looking into the incident right now.

He said he was confident the right actions will be done to find out the truth.

"I have forwarded the case to the Inspector General of Police for prompt investigation, and I anticipate that the necessary actions will be taken to determine the facts," he stated.

Regarding: Unfounded and unfounded claims of violence following elections

Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, the NPP MP for Asokwa, has accused me and another individual of being behind the violence that followed the election in the nation. This has caught my attention.

Her assertions are blatantly unfounded, malevolent, and untrue. It is quite concerning and sad for an Honorable Member of Parliament to make such reckless and careless remarks.

I have a stake in Ghana's peace and stability since I was once the Minister of National Security. This dedication is demonstrated by my decades of public service.

There are serious ramifications for national cohesiveness and togetherness following the election from Hon. Appiagyei's careless accusations.

Because of this, I have forwarded the case to the Inspector General of Police for prompt inquiry, and I eagerly await the necessary actions to be conducted in order to gather the facts.
