According to the National meals Suppliers Association, the organization is awaiting a government purchase order so that its members can provide meals to senior high schools.
This comes after senior high schools across were reported to be experiencing food shortages. The group claims to have food in stock and hence requests a purchase order in the face of calls for schools to be closed until the problem is resolved.
Thomas Awuah, the Association's president, told GHOne News that members are prepared to make sure that food is delivered to all senior high schools by Monday.
The National Food Suppliers Association supplies the food, and since the government has changed, we are awaiting a purchase order from the new administration because we have all of the food products in stock.
However, you can't simply show up at Accra Academy and declare, "I'm a supplier, and I'm bringing 2,000 bags of rice." Who placed the order? We're waiting for the go-ahead to do this, do that, and we can provide that. That's what we're waiting for.
Everything is there, even the funds and the food that we have on hand. However, we are waiting and cannot simply go and supply without any directive, permission from a director or minister, or anything else.
We are always prepared; even now, if they approve us, I can guarantee that we will be able to serve every school in Ghana by Monday," Mr. Awuah stated. Citing an increase in complaints and the association's readiness, the president also urged the government to take immediate action.
He explained, “It should be as soon as possible because the complaints we’re getting are getting out of hand, and for the government to get its peace of mind, while there’s no money in the system, fortunately, we, the suppliers, have the money, and we have food in stock; we’re just waiting for that ‘go,’ and everything will go.”
