In the event of a fire, Ghanaians are encouraged to contact their emergency lines right once, according to Mr. Desmond Ackah, Head of Public Relations for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

He said people who are affected by fire breakouts often fail to call their emergency lines in a timely manner.

He claimed that this made handling emergencies more difficult.

"The most important first step in dealing with an outbreak is calling the emergency lines," Nyankonton Mu Nsem said in an interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.

He emphasized that the GNFS is still prepared, committed, and would always react swiftly to any fire outbreak thanks to its committed and skilled staff.

He bemoaned the lack of enthusiasm shown by certain Ghanaians in fire safety awareness initiatives, despite their efforts in public education.

"We'll remind Ghanaians to contact the GNFS at all times. We are prepared to respond to emergencies wherever you may be. If you see an emergency, please get in touch with us right away. Ghanaians rarely give us timely calls and then point the finger at us when things have gotten out of hand.

He said the GNFS is there to serve, and whenever people are in urgent need of their services, all they need to do is to call 112, 192, and the hotline 0302772446.
