Afenyo-Markin rushed to Supreme Court because he doesn’t want to be Minority Leader – John Jinapor

John Jinapor, the MP for Yapei-Kusawgu, has criticized Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for his swift decision to seek a Supreme Court injunction aimed at blocking Speaker Alban Bagbin from determining the fate of four MPs.

Jinapor argues that Afenyo-Markin is primarily motivated by a fear of potentially becoming the Minority Leader if the Speaker rules in favor of a petition that could shift parliamentary power dynamics.

During a recent parliamentary debate on a petition from Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu, which requested the declaration of three NPP MPs and one NDC MP’s seats as vacant, concerns were raised about precedents set by former Speaker Mike Oquaye.

Jinapor expressed skepticism about the Supreme Court granting the injunction, warning that such a move would further entrench perceptions of judicial bias.

Jinapor condemned Afenyo-Markin’s actions as politically driven and inappropriate while the Speaker was still considering the matter.
