Former Chairman of the Hajj Board, Hon. Ben Abdallah, has clarified that the ongoing construction of the Hajj Village is a legacy project initiated by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.
His statement comes as the current government plans to cut sod at the same site where construction is already underway.
Abdallah explained that the previous government started the project in 2017 under the leadership of the late Minister for Aviation, Kofi Adda, and was later driven forward by the former Minister for Transport, Hon. Kweku Asiamah.
The project was initiated in response to an appeal from the Ghana Hajj Board for a dedicated Hajj Village. The construction contract was awarded to a company called MAWUMS in 2024 after necessary approvals.
He emphasized that the project was seen as sacred due to its religious significance and thus, was not publicly highlighted or marked with fanfare.
Abdallah urged the current government to recognize and give credit to the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration for starting the Hajj Village project. He included designs and images of the ongoing construction in his statement.
