After nearly ten years in prison and a lengthy trial, Gregory Afoko, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was granted bail on February 28, 2025.
He was released from the Nsawam Medium Prison after meeting bail conditions set by the Accra High Court.
Afoko had been accused of conspiring in the 2015 acid attack that led to the death of Adams Mahama, the former NPP Upper East Regional Chairman.
His bail was set at GH¢500,000 with two sureties, one of whom needed to be justified. Afoko’s family celebrated his emotional homecoming, with his release bringing them relief.
His trial is set to continue, while his co-accused, Asabke Alangdi, remains in custody. Reports suggest that Afoko’s brother, Paul Afoko, may also be released soon.
