69 Military Personnel Trained as Emergency Medical Technicians by NAS and GAFMS

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) and the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services (GAFMS) have collaborated to train 69 Military Emergency Medical Technicians (MEMTs). This intensive one-year training program is part of efforts to strengthen the emergency care delivery system in Ghana.

The 69 MEMTs, who will pass out on December 19, 2024, at the 37 Military Hospital, have undergone rigorous training to equip them with the necessary skills to provide emergency medical care. This is the fourth batch of MEMTs to be trained through the NAS-GAFMS collaboration, which began in 2013.

The Ghana Armed Forces' mandate involves various national and international operations, where casualties and ailments are inevitable. The training aims to produce highly qualified Military EMTs to safeguard the lives of military personnel and the general public.

The National Ambulance Service, established in 2004 after the Accra Sports Stadium Disaster, is responsible for providing pre-hospital care to the populace. This collaboration between NAS and GAFMS is a significant step towards enhancing emergency care delivery in Ghana.
