In a recent viral video shared on X, actress and producer Matilda Asare expressed strong sentiments regarding Alan John Kyerematen's new Movement for Change party, sparking political debates.
In the video, Matilda asserts that Kyerematen's drive to divert support from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly in the Ashanti Region, where he recently conducted a well-attended public walk, is being financially supported by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Matilda said, "It's obvious that the NDC is pulling strings in the background," pointing to the crowd that had assembled for Kyerematen's stroll.
In the hopes that it may weaken the NPP's hold, they are contributing money and support to Alan Kyerematen's campaign. According to her, Kyerematen's actions are a component of the NDC's broader plan to erode the NPP's base of support as the election on December 7 draws near.
Matilda acknowledges Kyerematen's historical connections to the Akan people, but she is adamant that his appeal to tribal feelings won't resonate with today's voters.
Ghana is not the same as it was in the past. These differences are no longer relevant to Ashanti Region voters. She underlined, "They want real policies, not appeals to tribal loyalty."
She added that Kyerematen's movement is unlikely to make a big difference in the elections, no matter how hard he tries.
Even though he is currently attracting large crowds, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the one who connects with the public. "Bawumia is the preferred candidate in the Ashanti Region and beyond due to his vision and track record," Matilda said.
She maintained that Bawumia's support would only increase, particularly in regions that have historically supported the NPP, such as the Ashanti Region.
Matilda concluded her remarks by discussing the possible impact of what she called "NDC propaganda." "The Ashanti people know what they want," she stated. They will not be influenced by financial manipulation or political ploys. Voters recognize that Bawumia is the key to a thriving Ghana.
In Matilda’s view, the NDC’s efforts to back Kyerematen are futile, as she believes the electorate is better informed and committed to transformative leadership.
Her candid comments have ignited conversations across social media, illustrating how closely celebrities are involved in political discussions leading up to the elections.
According to Matilda, the electorate is more knowledgeable and dedicated to revolutionary leadership, hence the NDC's attempts to support Kyerematen are pointless. Her frank remarks have sparked discussions on social media, demonstrating the extent to which celebrities are participating in political discourse in the run-up to elections.
