Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, a Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has claimed that some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, including Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), conspired to imprison him for his criticism of the government.
In an interview with Joy FM, A Plus said that the conspiracy to imprison him was foiled by the intervention of NPP Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong. He regarded Kennedy Agyapong as a fair and dependable person whose activities kept him from facing false charges.
"The only reason I went to the meeting was because of Honorable Ken. Honorable Ken is a good person. You may have your own difficulties with him, but he's a wonderful person. Honorable Ken will be there for you in times of need. Some NPP members once conspired to imprison me.
"So, the morning before going to court, I prepared. I informed my children that I could go to jail today. Chairman Wontumi was part of the conspiracy to throw us in jail. Was it part of the strategy to imprison me? Yes, it was part of the strategy to imprison me. So we were heading to court that morning. Then, the morning before we left, Honorable Ken called to say, 'I'm leaving America. I will be arriving in Ghana tomorrow morning. I need to be in Ghana because I don't know what's going on. He literally stopped everything and flew back to Ghana."
A Plus also praised Kennedy Agyapong for his integrity and courage, stating that the MP works for justice regardless of party membership.
"So if Honorable Ken contacts me at any point, I have to be present. I had to listen to him. Even though I stated on Facebook that my heart is with COCOS and aligns with the NDC, I had to listen to Honorable Ken. Honorable Ken is a fantastic guy. He'll be there for you. He is their buddy's friend, their uncle's uncle, and their brother's brother.
He added that the incident enhanced his resolve to keep public leaders accountable.
