The Electoral Commission's (EC) Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Bossman Asare, has justified the rejection of some election observer applications, citing a rigorous vetting process.
According to Dr. Asare, organizations seeking accreditation must apply and meet specific criteria, including a track record and experience in election observation .
Dr. Asare emphasized that election observation is a privilege, not an automatic right, and the EC's primary goal is to maintain the integrity and credibility of the electoral process. He also noted that organizations can petition the commission for reconsideration if their application is denied.
This development comes after the EC rejected Election Watch Ghana's application for accreditation as an observer for the 2024 general elections .
