ECG Reveals Nuri Prepayment Meter Updates, Reducing Monthly Top-Up Needs

Customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have reportedly been notified that they will no longer need to buy power for a whole month if they are utilizing Nuri prepayment meters. A crucial component of the business's efforts to update and preserve the operation of these meters, the Token Identifier (TID) rollover procedure was successfully completed, and this update comes after that.

Charles Nii Ayiku, General Manager of External Communications at ECG, told the Daily Graphic that the upgrade was necessary to bring the Nuri meters into compliance with the Standard Transfer Specification (STS) protocol. For the meters to continue operating smoothly and for customers to have continuous access to vending services, which enable them to top up their power credits, this alignment is essential.

"This milestone is a component of a larger upgrade meant to guarantee the Nuri Prepayment Meters' continuous operation. Customers who have not yet had their meters updated should get in touch with ECG for help, as we want to reassure them that everything is proceeding as planned," Ayiku stated.

Many of the meters in Prampram, Accra East, Accra West, and Tema have already been upgraded as a result of the substantial progress made by ECG in its efforts to finish the meter upgrades in these districts. Ayiku apologized for any inconvenience the procedure may have caused and appreciated customer concerns voiced after the initial announcement.

In order to prevent disruptions, ECG previously urged consumers to buy enough top-up credit to last at least one month as part of the current update. The business foresaw possible disruptions during the procedure, therefore on Saturday, November 23, 2024, this advice was delivered. "To avoid vending disruptions during the Nuri meter upgrade, we advise our customers to buy enough top-up credit that will last them for at least a month," the statement continued.

ECG is still dedicated to a seamless and effective transition in spite of the early reservations. Customers who are having trouble topping up or whose meters have not been updated are encouraged to contact the company via the support channels that are available in order to receive assistance.

An important step in guaranteeing that Nuri prepayment meters continue to operate efficiently and offer continuous service to the increasing number of consumers depending on the system for their electricity needs is the upgrading process, which is anticipated to be finished shortly.
