The Ghana Education Service (GES) is mourning the loss of two BECE candidates, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, who were killed in a road accident while heading to their exam centre in Wa, Upper West Region. The students were from Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School and were supposed to write their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) ¹ ² ³.

The GES has expressed profound sorrow and extended condolences to the bereaved families, the school, and colleagues of the deceased. The service is working with relevant authorities to investigate the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The BECE, which determines placement into senior high schools, technical and vocational institutions, is currently ongoing nationwide.

Follow-up questions:

What measures is the GES taking to ensure student safety during the BECE?

How can the public support the affected families and school?
