John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has strongly condemned the distribution of food packs by Lydia Alhassan, the incumbent Member of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The incident occurred during the special voting exercise in the constituency, where Alhassan was seen sharing food packs with voters waiting in line. Dumelo described this act as an attempt at inducement, which is against Ghana's electoral laws.

Dumelo questioned the motive behind Alhassan's actions, asking why she was sharing food with people in the queue who had not yet voted. He emphasized that such actions undermine the fairness of the electoral process.

The NDC candidate warned that his party could also distribute food, but they choose to respect the rules of the Electoral Commission. He cautioned Alhassan and the NPP to desist from such practices, which could compromise the integrity of the elections.

Dumelo's condemnation of Alhassan's actions has sparked a heated debate about the use of inducements during elections. The incident has also raised concerns about the potential for vote-buying and the need for stricter enforcement of electoral laws.

The special voting exercise is a crucial step in Ghana's electoral process, and incidents like this can undermine the credibility of the elections. Dumelo's condemnation of Alhassan's actions is a call for all stakeholders to respect the rules and ensure a free and fair election.
