Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly criticized President Akufo-Addo's commissioning of the Bank of Ghana's (BoG) new headquarters. Gyamfi views this as a prime example of the government's misplaced priorities, especially since the building is still under construction .
Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana, Gyamfi expressed his frustration with the president's actions, questioning the logic behind unveiling an unfinished building. He also linked the unveiling to Ghana's broader economic woes, highlighting the significant financial losses suffered by the BoG in recent years.
Gyamfi pointed out that the BoG's losses amounted to GH₵60 billion in prior years, along with an additional GH₵10.5 billion loss last year. In contrast, he noted that during former President John Mahama's tenure, the Bank of Ghana generated profits and invested in vital projects.
Despite these criticisms, President Akufo-Addo defended the project during its commissioning on November 20, 2024, calling it a crucial step toward modernizing Ghana's financial infrastructure .
