Tragic news from Lebanon! Four Ghanaian soldiers on a peacekeeping mission were injured when a rocket struck their base, UNP 5-42, in the village of Ramyah . The attack happened near the Israeli border, and three of the injured soldiers required hospital treatment, although the severity of their injuries is still unknown. Thankfully, they're receiving medical care now .
It's reported that the rocket was likely fired by non-state actors and was intended for an Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) position but fell short, landing within the Ghana Battalion’s area . The explosion damaged the washroom and troop accommodations at the base, where the injured soldiers were stationed.
Unfortunately, this wasn't the only attack that day. Five rockets also struck the UNIFIL Sector West Headquarters in Shama, causing significant damage to the maintenance workshop, but fortunately, no injuries were reported .
The Israeli Defence Forces attributed the rocket fire to the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, but they haven't commented on the incident yet . The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirmed the attacks and is likely investigating the incidents.
Our thoughts are with the injured soldiers and their families, hoping for a speedy recovery.
