WAEC to Begin Scanning WASSCE Answer Sheets Tonight

Tue, 24 Dec 2024 Source: Mercy Mensah

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has finally confirmed that the scanning of objective answer sheets for the recently concluded WASSCE will commence tonight. This development comes after the government released GH¢25 million to repair some critical scanning machines .

According to Mr. Kapi, the technicians were able to restore functionality to three of the machines, allowing the council to begin the scanning process, albeit at a slower pace. The council is working tirelessly to meet its timelines, despite the initial Christmas break, and has even recalled some personnel to assist with the process.

In addition to scanning, WAEC has also engaged examiners to scrutinize scripts of candidates flagged for possible examination malpractice. However, the council has emphasized the need for additional financial support to complete all aspects of the results processing.

Some of the critical expenses that need to be covered include:

- *Repair of additional machines*: to ensure that the scanning process can be completed efficiently

- *Payment of invigilators and supervisors*: to ensure that the examination process is conducted smoothly

- *Procurement of a larger bandwidth*: to enable the uploading of results online

The government has assured WAEC that more funds will be released soon, but if this doesn't happen, the council may face delays in releasing the results.
