Dr Bryan Acheampong, a leading contender in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race, has intensified his campaign in the Eastern Region, describing himself as the most credible unifying force capable of leading the party back to power in the 2028 general elections.

Dr Acheampong was on his second major campaign tour of the Eastern Region after completing an extensive nationwide outreach that saw him visit all constituencies across the country.

Speaking to delegates from Lower Manya, Yilo Krobo, Upper Manya and Asuogyaman—collectively known as the Krobo Bloc—at Odumase Krobo on Sunday, January 18, 2026, the tour forms part of his preparations ahead of the NPP presidential primaries slated for January 31, 2026, where party delegates will elect a flagbearer to lead the party into the next electoral cycle.

Addressing party faithful, Dr Acheampong made a passionate appeal for unity within the party, cautioning against internal divisions that could undermine the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general elections.

He argued that while all aspirants seeking the presidential slot are capable and competent, the party’s immediate need is a candidate who can bridge internal factions and mobilise the grassroots for victory.

“Which of you believe that should Kennedy Agyapong win, Abronye and his supporters will fully support him? And who is hopeful that should Dr Mahamudu Bawumia win, Kennedy Agyapong and his supporters will equally support him?” Dr Acheampong asked. “If we truly reflect on our quest for power in 2028, then unity must be our priority. I am the one who can unite this party for victory.”

He maintained that the NPP’s painful defeat in the 2024 general elections remains fresh in the minds of supporters, but noted that the party has begun to regain momentum within a year. According to him, his nationwide engagement has reinvigorated the party’s base, restored confidence among supporters, and injected renewed energy into party structures.

“No candidate in the history of our party has been able to activate the base the way I have,” he asserted. “We suffered a major setback in 2024, but within a year, we have breathed life back into the NPP. This renewed spirit will carry us through to December 7, 2028.”

Dr Acheampong also promised the people of Krobo and the wider Eastern Region a “new NPP” founded on unity, discipline, trust and shared opportunity. He assured party members that under his leadership, all stakeholders would remain relevant and benefit from electoral success.

Backing his campaign, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Jeff Konadu Addo, openly endorsed Dr Acheampong and urged delegates to rally behind him in the upcoming primaries.

Mr Konadu Addo described Dr Acheampong as the best-placed candidate to lead the NPP to victory in 2028, citing his extensive logistical and financial support to the party during the 2024 general elections, particularly in the Eastern Region.

He disclosed that Dr Acheampong’s support extended to parliamentary candidates as well as regional and constituency executives, ensuring that campaign activities remained functional despite financial challenges faced by the party nationwide.

The regional chairman emphasised that Dr Acheampong’s commitment to the NPP goes beyond words.

“While other regions struggled financially during the 2024 campaign period, the Eastern Region remained relatively stable largely due to Dr Acheampong’s intervention,” Mr Konadu Addo said. “That level of dedication, loyalty and strategic support cannot be ignored.”

He urged delegates to vote freely and without fear or intimidation on January 31, stressing that unity and confidence would be critical as the party reorganises for the 2028 elections.

As the NPP prepares for one of its most consequential presidential primaries in recent history, Dr Acheampong’s campaign continues to frame the contest as a choice between internal rivalry and collective renewal, with unity emerging as the central theme of his message.
