Eastern Funeral Home launched in Koforidua to expand modern mortuary services

A new privately owned funeral facility, Eastern Funeral Home Ltd., has been officially launched in Koforidua to enhance access to modern mortuary services and provide families with a dignified environment to honour their departed loved ones.

The launch ceremony, held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, brought together government officials, traditional authorities, clergy, industry stakeholders and members of the public to witness the inauguration of the facility, which is expected to strengthen funeral service delivery in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Chief Executive Officer of the funeral home, Joseph Kwasi Okyere, explained that the establishment of the facility was driven by the desire to offer professional and compassionate funeral services that uphold the highest standards of ethics, hygiene and respect for the deceased.

He noted that the centre will provide services including embalming, body preservation, dressing and viewing arrangements for funeral ceremonies, while also creating a serene and well-organised setting where families can bid farewell to their loved ones with dignity.

“Our aim is to ensure that every loved one entrusted into our care is treated with honour, respect and professionalism,” he said.

Earlier, the administrator of the facility, Cleotha Mends-Buah, in a welcome address indicated that the project was inspired by the growing need for compassionate and efficient funeral services within the region.

According to her, the facility has been designed to provide families with reliable support during difficult moments while improving the overall standard of funeral service delivery in the area.

The launch ceremony featured cultural performances and goodwill messages from representatives of the Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency as well as stakeholders within the funeral services industry, including Lashibi Funeral Home.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, and the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III, jointly performed the ribbon-cutting and unveiled the commemorative plaque to officially mark the opening of the facility.

The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who was present at the ceremony, commended private sector investment in infrastructure and noted that such initiatives contribute to improved service delivery and local economic development.

The facility was later dedicated by the Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah Agyekum, who offered prayers for its successful operation.

Guests subsequently toured the facility and interacted with management and staff.

Management believes the establishment of Eastern Funeral Home will help reduce the need for families to travel long distances in search of modern mortuary services while also contributing to employment creation and economic activity in the local community.
