Former NDC chairman supports UESD’s aquaculture project, Nectar Foundation to commemorate birthday

The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman for the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency in the Eastern Region has embarked on some philanthropic works in the community to commemorate his birthday.




Mr. David Walter Hormenu donated assorted items to the Nectar Foundation, an orphanage located at Nuaso, a suburb of Lower Manya Krobo as well as 50 bags of cement to the University of Environment and Sustainable Development in Somanya.

The donations commemorates his birthday, which occurred on Monday, March 10, 2025.

At the UESD campus, the politician explained that the gesture was in response to the institution’s request for assistance towards its aquaculture project on campus, adding that the items would go a long way in assisting the UESD establish a facility that would expand and improve aquaculture studies.

“I decided to support the university upon request from the aquaculture department and I thought it very expedient to do so because the university is within our catchment area in Kroboland,” said Mr. Homenu.

Citing the infrastructural deficit in the university, Mr. Homenu called on the locals to rise and own the university and not wait on government to do it all alone.

The former constituency chairman who had in the past marked his birthday by donating to basic and second cycle schools in the area noted that the gesture was aimed towards cementing the already cordial relationship between the community and the institution.

According to him, the act of magnanimity was a step in the right direction for those who had made it through the educational ladder to give back to society.

Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, Vice-Chancellor of the University, accepted the donation on behalf of the management and extended the UESD’s deep gratitude to David Hormenu Walter.

He praised him for contributing to the institution’s progress while also celebrating his special day, adding that the donation would go a long way towards developing the university and wished him well in all his future endeavours.

Underscoring the essence of the gesture to the project, Prof. Nyarko-Sampson said, “Aquaculture is one of the courses we run over here which enables graduates to practice it after school but we need a pond to run the project and we’re therefore grateful to our benefactor for his generosity.’

He called on individuals, organisations and the general public to similarly assist the university complete the project.

At the Nectar Foundation, Mr. Walter Homenu donated assorted items including clothing, drinks, water and other items to support the home. He said the act of kindness was to put smiles on the faces of the less-privileged in society on his special day.

Foster mother at the home, Madam Christabel Adarkwa received the items on behalf of the home and expressed her appreciation for the kind gesture.

Mr. Homenu called on various individuals and businesses within the Krobo area to come on board and support the two facilities to enable them serve their purpose.
