Asharami Ghana—a subsidiary of energy and infrastructure conglomerate, Sahara Group—says it remains committed to spearheading the country’s transition towards green and sustainable energy for clean cooking and urban use, according to its managing director, Ms. Yaa Serwaa Alifo.
While renewable energy remains central to longterm decarbonisation goals, she indicated that liquefied petroleum gas provides an immediate, practical solution for households and small businesses that require reliable and affordable energy.
This position, she said, underpins the company’s investment in MT Asharami Ghana, a dualfuel LPG carrier designed to improve logistics efficiency and reduce emissions across the LPG value chain.
“For seamless and sustainable progress, LPG will play a critical role in Ghana’s transition, particularly in clean cooking and urban energy use,” said Yaa Serwaa Alifo, Managing Director, Asharami Ghana.
Ms. Alifo noted that the vessel directly supports Ghana’s ambition to increase LPG penetration to 50 percent of households by 2030, while delivering immediate publichealth benefits through reduced indoor air pollution and easing pressure on forests.
She said Asharami Ghana is reinforcing supply reliability through the development of a 12,000metrictonne LPG storage terminal in Tema, with a 6,000metrictonne first phase scheduled for commissioning later this year.
The combination of dedicated shipping and expanded storage, according the company, is expected to reduce supply disruptions and help stabilise access to clean fuel.
“Rather than competing with renewables, LPG complements the transition,” Ms. Alifo said, adding that “it creates the stability and affordability required for renewable energy systems to scale sustainably over time.”
Ms. Alifo stressed that energy transitions succeed when they are sequenced realistically, balancing longterm climate objectives with immediate development and publichealth priorities. LPG, she noted, replaces dirtier fuels such as biomass and kerosene, improving quality of life while laying the foundations for deeper decarbonisation.
