NDC youth threaten uprising over promotion of supposed 'known NPP boy' as the MD of CMC

A storm is brewing within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as party faithful express outrage over the appointment of Fredrick Amponsah-Doku as the Managing Director of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC).

In a strongly worded petition addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, a faction of the party has demanded the immediate revocation of his appointment, warning of dire consequences if their concerns are ignored.

The petition, signed by Edwin Afortude, a branch chairman of the NDC, encapsulates the growing frustration among grassroots members who feel betrayed by the administration’s decision to place a known New Patriotic Party (NPP) affiliate in such a strategic role.

The letter argues that after years of dedication and sacrifice, NDC loyalists are being sidelined in favor of political opponents—a move they deem unacceptable.

A Brewing Political Storm

The core of the petitioners' grievance is the belief that rewarding an NPP-aligned individual with such a key position is a slap in the face to those who fought to return the NDC to power.

They assert that such appointments not only demoralize the party’s base but also embolden the opposition at a critical time when the NDC needs unity and strength.

“If this trend continues, the youth and grassroots members who sacrificed everything for your victory will be left with no choice but to believe that their efforts were in vain,” the petition reads.

The letter goes further to warn of potential street protests should their concerns be ignored.

“We are warning that if this appointment is not immediately revoked, we will have no option but to organize a massive demonstration against this decision,” the statement declares.

Political Fallout and Potential Repercussions

This development presents a challenging moment for President Mahama, who must navigate internal party tensions while maintaining a broad-based governance approach. While appointments across party lines can sometimes be seen as a sign of political maturity and inclusivity, the NDC’s grassroots argue that such decisions should not come at the expense of loyal party members.

The discontent brewing within the NDC’s rank and file could have far-reaching implications for the party’s cohesion ahead of future elections. With youth unemployment, economic challenges, and political polarization already testing the government’s popularity, alienating the party’s base may prove costly.

It remains to be seen how the President will respond to these demands, but one thing is clear: the NDC youth are watching closely, and their patience is running thin. If swift action is not taken, Ghana’s political landscape could soon witness yet another wave of street protests—this time, not from the opposition, but from within the ruling party itself.
