MTN Ghana, in collaboration with MobileMoney Ltd and Access Bank Ghana PLC, has launched an innovative service designed to make smartphone ownership more accessible for Ghanaians. The new offering, called MTN Pick and Pay Later, allows customers to acquire smartphones through a flexible payment plan, with instalments spread over four or six months via MTN MoMo.
The service is aimed at bridging the gap for individuals who need smartphones but are unable to afford the upfront costs. Customers can select their preferred device based on their creditworthiness, assessed by MTN’s in-house credit scoring engine.
To use the service, customers can dial *170#, navigate to the Financial Services section, and select Device Pick and Pay Later under Loans.
Noel Kojo-Ganson, MTN Ghana’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the company’s commitment to ensuring that everyone enjoys the benefits of a modern, connected lifestyle. “We believe every Ghanaian deserves access to high-speed internet and a good smartphone. This initiative provides an opportunity for customers with limited upfront funds to own a smartphone,” he remarked.
Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana, echoed similar sentiments, pointing out that only 13% of eligible Ghanaians currently have access to borrowing. She added, “This partnership aligns with our vision of empowering individuals and promoting financial inclusion through digital solutions. By enabling more people to afford smartphones, we are enhancing their ability to access digital financial services conveniently.”
The Pick and Pay Later service is supported by key partners, including Hollard Insurance, PaySwitch, and Atlantic Phones. Together, they provide additional services such as insurance and seamless payment systems to enhance the customer experience.
Customers can choose from a variety of smartphones, ranging from entry-level to mid-tier 4G devices. By offering accessible financing options, MTN Ghana and its partners aim to encourage the adoption of digital services and promote a cash-light economy.
This collaboration underscores the shared vision of MTN, Access Bank, and their partners to foster financial inclusion and connect more Ghanaians to the digital economy.
