NCA Serves Suspension notice to Multichoice Over Pricing Concerns

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has issued a notice to Multichoice Ghana Limited, signalling its intention to suspend the company’s authorisation to operate its Satellite Television Subscription Management Service in Ghana.

According to a press release from the Authority, the action is being taken under Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), due to concerns over Multichoice’s current pricing model, which the NCA describes as “inimical to the public interest.”

The NCA explained that the regulatory move stems from an assessment of Multichoice Ghana’s pricing structure, which it deems unfair or potentially exploitative to consumers.

As per the notice, Multichoice Ghana now has 30 days to respond. Within this period, the company is expected to present its position, provide any remedial actions, and submit a written statement of objections to the intended suspension.

This development could have significant implications for consumers who rely on Multichoice services, including DStv, for satellite television access in the country.

The NCA emphasised that the move is part of its mandate to regulate electronic communications services and protect consumer interests in Ghana.
